Enterprise Email
featuring Zimbra Collaboration
In July of 2013, Telligent acquired Zimbra from VMware. The new owners changed the company name to Zimbra and began executing their plan to develop Zimbra into the first unified social collaboration suite for the post-PC era. We are impressed. Since the acquisition we have seen an intense focus on software development and a high level of service. Zimbra recently made an exciting acquisition of a company called Mezeo, for their secure file sync and sharing technology.
We look forward to offering improved features to our customers, and recently announced several important changes to the service, as follows:
* Improved Administrator Control – Domain administrators can now see disk usage and quotas, have greater control over user features, can manage webmail themselves, and enable/disable Zimlets
* Calendar SMS notifications - users can configure notifications via SMS
* S/MIME support – Secure Email using S/MIME can be enabled in the web mail client
*Zimlets – several new Zimlets have been added

Personal Digital IDs
PersonalSign Certificates by GlobalSign
The Internet is the modern version of the Wild Wild West, but on a global scale. People who lived on the frontier needed to know who they were dealing with, and needed to be able to lock up their possessions.
The situation is the same on the Internet. That’s why Personal Digital IDs were created. This special purpose certificates are designed to assure the identify of an individual or organization, and also provide encryption of mail messages. The three uses of Personal Digital IDs are:
* Securing Email – When both parties use Digital IDs, they can verify each other’s identify and encrypt the messages they send to each other.
Two Factor Authentication – Use of Digital IDs provides a strong form of authentication for access to computer networks.
Microsoft Office Document Signing – MS Office documents support the use of Digital IDs to confirm the author and ensure that no changes were made.

Code Signing Certificates
Code Signing Certificates are a special type of certificate for software publishers. The certificate is used to ensure that software that is provided via the Internet has not been altered. Think of it as “shrink wrap” for software that is delivered electronically.
If you deliver your software via the Internet, you really need to have it signed. Studies show that the usage of downloaded software rises significantly when the user sees immediate assurance that the code is signed.

TECH TIP
Secure your Emails
Many of our customers are concerned about the security of emails. If their primary concern is the security of emails to and from colleagues when using the company mail service we recommend that they purchase a low cost SSL certificate for their mail server. Web mail users would then use https when accessing mail. Users of Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. must turn on the SSL/TLS setting in their mail client. It’s that simple!
This approach will encrypt messages to and from the mail users of the company mail system, during transit. However, it WILL NOT secure mail to/from external mail users, nor will it secure messages while stored on the server itself. To secure mail end to end, and to store messages in encrypted form, you must use a secure mail protocol such as S/MIME.
If you have any questions on email security, please contact sales@eapps.com.
