eApps launches CDN Service
We are pleased to announce the availability of our Content Delivery Network (CDN) service. The service is designed to improve the load speed of your web site by delivering content through a global network of delivery locations. Intelligent Anycast DNS will determine which location is closest to your site visitor, ensuring that content is delivered through the shortest path. The CDN network is provided through our Cloud software vendor, OnApp, and has been in production for over two years.

SSL
Improved Trust, Security and SEO Ranking
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) has long been associated with eCommerce sites. Most online shoppers are aware that their identity, credentials, and credit card information are protected using SSL. But did you know that the benefits of SSL extend beyond securing eCommerce? Here are three reasons why site owners should consider using SSL for their entire web site.
Trust and Confidence – Your site visitors will have a high degree of confidence that your site is authentic and not a phishing site (imposter). The SSL lock icon, or better yet the green bar information in the URL provided by extended validation SSL certificates, lets them know that your site is legitimate.
Encryption – Using SSL on all pages is an excellent default security approach, providing a blanket of protection against hackers and identify thieves. Site-wide SSL helps protect against eavesdropping and new genres of intervention such as newstweek, which alters news information delivered through public WiFi hotspots (see http://newstweek.com/overview).
Improved SEO Page ranking – On Aug 6, 2014 Google announced that it would boost the SEO ranking of sites that use SSL. At this time it is a “lightweight” signal, resulting in a modest improvement in ranking. However, Google is committed to the cause of better Internet security and is expected to increase this incentive for using SSL in the future.
One issue that is often raised relates to the CPU power needed for SSL. The CPU does have to work harder to encrypt and decrypt the traffic. Fortunately our customers rarely have to increase their CPU when using SSL due to the ample CPU capacity we provide on our servers. Another issue is cost, since SSL certificates are issued and sold by third parties. We have good news there too. eApps offers a range of affordable SSL certificates, starting at $29 per year, with installation included at no additional charge. Tech Tip
How to Check Your SSL Configuration
SSL uses software components, called cipher suites, to create the secure connection between your server and your site visitor’s browser. The development of these components is very dynamic, with no practical way to automatically update them. For this reason it is important to periodically check the configuration of your SSL. Use this handy tool provided by our SSL vendor to check your SSL:
